gfxCardStatus is an open-source menu bar application that keeps track of which graphics card your 2010 (and now 2009!) MacBook Pro is using at any given time, and allows you to switch between them manually.

Ars technica explains the problem this app is trying to solve: the automatic switching between integrated graphics and the NVIDEA graphics card and its affect on battery life.
